LOGS FOR DRILLING ENGINEERS

Instructor: Roger L. Nutt                                                             3 days

Who should attend:

Drilling Engineers, Production Engineers, Technicians, and anyone who needs a basic understanding of oil-well logs but has no need to derive quantitative values of porosity and water saturation.

About this course:

This is an elementary course in log evaluation, designed for the engineer and technician who would like to know how to read and understand the logs but has no wish to use them for quantitative purposes. The first two days deals with open-hole surveys - using logs to identify reservoir rocks, what's in them, and what they're made of. The third day is devoted exclusively to the evaluation of cement bonding using cement bond logs, CET and USIT. The instructor uses clear and easy-to-understand Power-Point slides and loads of practical examples, livened with entertaining anecdotes from a lifetime's experience in the oil-patch.

What you will learn...

After two days you will be able to recognize all the basic open-hole logs, know what they are measuring and how to read them, recognize all the common rock types, and identify any hydrocarbon zones. The third day will give you confidence in selecting the cement evaluation tools you need, and how to interpret the logs you run.
