About this course

The first day is devoted exclusively to cement bond tool interpretation. The next two days you will study production logs - what they measure, how they measure it, and how to understand what the results mean. You will learn about all the different types of flowmeter, temperature tools, manometer, gradiomanometer, and gamma-ray. With a minimum of lectures to give you the background knowledge you need, you will have the opportunity to solve a wide variety of real-life examples.

How to read and interpret cement bond logs.
How micro-annulus affects cement evaluation tools, and how to avoid it.
Cement Evaluation and Pulse echo tools and their interpretation.
Ultra-sonic bond indicators - what they measure, why they complement other tools but do not replace them.
Why fluid migration through the casing-formation annulus is so common.
Flowmeters - how they work, what they measure.
How apparent flow can be affected by the kind of perforation gun you use.
How to recognize vortical flow.
Bubble counter techniques.
Temperature tools, and how to use them to identify flow behind the casing.
Gradiomanometer and fluid density tools and their application.
Using gamma-ray and Spectral gamma-ray to identify NORM.
What NORM means.

What you will learn...

That the different cement evaluation tools are complementary, and even if you have a perfect cement job you can still get leakage through the casing-formation annulus. How to calibrate flowmeters, how the type of perforation gun can affect the apparent flow-rate, how caves and channels can change the flow-meter response. How you can use the temperature tool to identify the source of your production, and what NORM can tell you about reservoir behaviour.
